According to the Royal Spanish Language Academy, cooperation means “working together with another or others for the same purpose”. For Institución Educativa SEK, cooperation is one of the values we promote in the daily work of our students. Peace, tolerance and help would be other values among those that we promote, not only in the classroom but also in other educational and family settings. We want our students to be aware of human problems in the Third World, among children or the elderly. We want them to be sensitive to hunger, illiteracy and environmental protection. And, more than as a mere educational goal, we want solidarity to be developed as an inherent attitude throughout the SEK community.
Both Institución Educativa SEK and the Camilo José Cela University (UCJC) are attentive to the reality of our world and seek to promote the responsible participation of all members of our educational community in a range charitable and collaborative programs. An example is UCJC’s Office for University Cooperation, whose main function is to promote the social awareness of the students so that they support and collaborate with organizations that need human resources to develop their own programs. A number of our university students have been involved in one of these programs working voluntarily with the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos residential school in the Dominican Republic.
